Four nabbed for stock theft

OMUTHIYA - The police on Saturday through an undercover operation managed to apprehend four stock theft suspects.
They have been allegedly terrorising farms in the vicinity of Tsumeb over the past months.
The suspects were found with 16 carcasses of goats with a value of N$32 000. All suspects are expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court and are charged for contravening Stock Theft Act, Act/1990.

“Based on intelligence driven information, there is a demand of meat within the locality of Tsumeb. Some members of the community used to place orders to these criminals whereby they ensure that their demands are met. My office then came up with modalities on how to curb stock theft within the area and due to the good relationship between the neighbourhood watch of Tsumeb, we managed to apprehend the criminals who have been terrorising the farmers within the policing area,” said Tsumeb station commander Chief Inspector Sisco Kotze.

“In addition, one of them a 40-year-old man, is a notorious suspect who has been on the run and wanted on three stock theft charges in which he allegedly stole livestock with a combined worth of N$55 000.”
The recovered carcasses were stolen from farm Driefontein no.46.
